ADVISORY COUNCIL AGENDA |
| The Riverside County Advisory Council on Aging is a group of seasoned and diverse community leaders committed to each other and the process of consensus building to meet the needs of older adults, persons with disabilities, and caregivers in Riverside County. |
ADVOCACY
The Older Americans Act of 1965 provides the framework for the aging network. A broad based system of community based services and support for elders. State Units on Aging and over six hundred local Area Agencies on Aging, including the Office on Aging together with the Administration on Aging make up the Aging Network. Found throughout the Older Americans Act is the mandate for the entire Aging Network to take up the charge of Advocating for Elders and although the Act has been revisited, revised and renewed over the years, that core mandate remains as a central focal point of the mission of the Aging Network and each Area Agency on Aging in particular. The Office on Aging and Advisory Council on Aging takes this responsibility seriously and since its inception, the Office on Aging and Advisory Council on Aging has recognized Advocacy as one of its core functions. The Office on Aging and Advisory Council on Aging works with its key advocacy partners, the California Association of Area Agencies on Aging (C4A) and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (N4A) in advocating for the development of policies, programs and services that promote and protect the dignity and independence of older adults. The focus of federal advocacy efforts remains continued reauthorization and funding of the Older Americans Act that serves to provide for a network of services and supports targeted to older adults and it enables the Office on Aging to provide essential services, supports and advocacy for the elders of the County of Riverside. Through the establishment of the Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) of Riverside County, the Office on Aging along with the Advisory Council on Aging has developed a network of partner agencies that is dedicated to collaborative advocacy on behalf of the elders of Riverside County. Finally, the root and goal of our extensive advocacy efforts speaks to the core value of the Office on Aging… “The Right to Age With Dignity.” |
