ABOUT US

Riverside County Office on Aging was designated on June 18, 1974, by the Board of Supervisors, as a County Department on Aging for Planning and Service Area (PSA) 21. It serves as the official Area Agency on Aging throughout Riverside County, California.

The Office on Aging is one of fifty-five county departments and is located within the city boundaries of Riverside (West County Office), with satellite offices in Coachella Valley (Palm Desert Office) and in Hemet (Hemet Senior Service Center). Although there are three (3) community-based offices, each office can be contacted by calling one telephone number to handle all inquiries and needs: 1-800-510-2020

Riverside County Office on Aging, under the Federal Older Americans Act and Older Californians Act, is charged to provide leadership in developing a system of care services for older persons and adults with disabilities in Riverside County. Under the governance of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors and a seventeen-member citizen Advisory Council, the Office on Aging provides customer-centered services based on the vision, purpose, core value, and promise statement defined in our Strategic Plan: Strategic Plan: 2009-2012 Bridging the Generations for the Future...A Compass for Quality Aging.

The Riverside County Office on Aging administers over a ten million dollar budget comprised of public and private funds from Federal, State, County and local sources, including direct, voluntary contributions from older persons who receive services.

    Advocacy

The Advisory Council on Aging has the charge under the Older Americans Act to advocate for policy and program changes that enhance quality of services, promote independence and expand choices for seniors.

    Education and Outreach

The Office on Aging convenes providers, policy makers, consumer representatives, and community leaders to encourage cooperation and to improve both quality and efficiency of services to older adults and adults with disabilities.
The Leadership/Advocacy Roundtable convenes leaders quarterly to address emerging issues and to share updates on breakthrough programs and policy changes throughout the county and at the state and federal level.
The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Task Force convenes public sector and community leaders to address the concerns, issues, and service needs identified by grandparents who are raising their grandchildren.
The Advisory Council on Aging convenes special forums inviting experts and the community at large to provide information on the changing needs and emerging issues affecting seniors and adults with disabilities in the county.

    Information

The Advisory Council on Aging convenes an educational conference/forum annually on topics of concern such as health, housing, transportation and other issues that affect seniors and adults with disabilities.

    Program Development

The Office on Aging conducts periodic needs assessments focused on older adults and reviews other local organizations and agencies that provide services for older adults. These needs assessments help the OoA, in its role as both an Area Agency on Aging for all of Riverside County and as an Aging and Disability Resource Connection, to determine where gaps exist in our collective ability to provide critical services to our key constitencies.
Once identified OoA seeks ways; either through the adoption of best practices used in other areas, the establishment of new community partnership and collaborations of the identification of new sources of funding; to develop and incubate pilot programs designed to address these gaps in service. If successful, the pilot programs are then adopted by OoA and/or our partner agencies. This process of evaluation, assessment and program development allows the OoA to ensure that the Riverside County's Older Adult population receives the best possible service.
